3 Things You Have To Have In Your Portfolio To Land Clients
As a freelancer, one of the most essential pieces of work you will ever create is your portfolio! A portfolio is something that you send a potential client to review your work. Your portfolio is your first or second touch with a client, and there are three things you need to have in your portfolio if you want to secure a discovery call with a client!
You Have to Have An “About Me” Page
Potential clients need to know who you are, not just as a business owner, but who you really are. For example, my about me page includes that I love serving people. That's an important quality that I want potential clients to know. You can also put things you love, whether or not you're married, and where you live.
You should also add your education and things that you have done in the past that separate you from the other freelancers trying to land the client.
You Have To Have Testimonials
Potential clients need to see that you've worked with other entrepreneurs and that they have praised your work.
If you don't have testimonials, I recommend bartering within Facebook Groups. You can say something like, “Hey, I'm looking to gain some experience and testimonials. I am trading two hours of service for a testimonial, or I'll create five graphics for a testimonial.”
Make sure to be specific with your agreement and still have them sign a contract ;)
Get Your Call-To-Action Clear
You have to tell your potential clients what the next steps are if they want to work with you. For example: when you go somewhere for the very first time, you usually don’t know where to go, so you grab a map or look at the aisle signs. If there is no one or nothing there to guide you, you have no idea what to do.
So, make sure that you include in your portfolio what their next steps are if they want to speak with you!
Branding
If your website is purple, then your portfolio should be purple. If your website is green, your portfolio should not be blue. We want your brand to look the same across your platforms, programs, documents, etc.
There are a million beautiful fonts out there, but if you cannot see the font on your phone neither can the potential clients.
Bonus Tip
It is soooooo important to spellcheck your portfolios. This is one of the first times the potential client is seeing who you are. If you have a bunch of spelling errors, why would they want to hire you as an assistant when you're not even catching these things on your end for your own work? How are you going to value and treat their work? So make sure that your portfolio is absolutely perfect.
These are just some things you need to know in starting your career as a freelancer or virtual assistant. Include the services that you offer that they need, testimonials, and anything related!
